rad roles
We are so excited that you are applying for RAD Committee 2019/20! Before you submit your
application please read the information in this document carefully!

FXU Raise and Donate (RAD) is a group of passionate students on a mission to run, climb, trek,
jump and have adventures of a lifetime for local and international charities that are personal to
you and us! We aim to do this in a fun, active way to get as many people as possible involved,
whether they’re looking to do something small or big.

2018/19 has been RADs best year yet. We have recruited over 1% of the student population in
Penryn/Falmouth to take part in a challenge activity or hitch event. We are on track to fundraise
over £100,000 for our challenge charity partners and have run a variety of successful events,
including Take Me Out and Naked Calendar. We are also gearing up for what looks like will be
our most successful hitch event to date... Jailbreak! All of our efforts this year have also meant
we have been nominated for Most Improved Society at the National Society Awards 2019!

Now that the academic year is coming to a close we are looking for a new passionate and

Keeping the FXU Community Partnership Manager and Fundraising Officer updated on RAD activities

Organising reflections and evaluations for activities and progress
-
Maintaining positive relationships with charity and logistic partners
Please note that this role requires a high level of commitment and is not to be taken lightly. It requires weekly and bi-monthly check-ins with various members of the committee. Time and commitment to the role is pivotal to the successful running of FXU RAD.
This role may involve an interview depending on the number of applications, and can be a single or co-presidency position.
Vice-Presidents
As a Vice-President, you will be in charge of supporting your officers in their roles and will be expected to have a good understanding of what is happening in RAD and have good communication skills to converse the updates and changes to the remainder of the committee. You should be a confident leader and be a positive problem solver as you will be helping support the President with the continuous development of RAD’s fundraising and other officers in their roles.
Please note that this role requires a high level of commitment and is not to be taken lightly, it requires weekly and bi-monthly check-ins with various members of the committee and time and commitment to the role is pivotal to the successful running of FXU RAD.
VP Events
As the events Vice-President, you will be in charge of overseeing all of RAD’s event-based activities. This involves keeping tabs on the events, hitches and appropriate marketing officers. Your main role and responsibility is to ensure the overall smooth running day-to-day operations of RAD alongside your co-vice president and president.
The roles and responsibility of the Vice President Events are mainly overseeing the actions of the yearly events, this can be anything from coordinating venues, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, managing volunteers, securing entertainment and working closely with the officers to assist them in whatever capacity needed for that particular event.
The main goal of the Vice President Events is to create engaging and inclusive events that will raise money for the Charity of The Year, with the running of events/projects like freshers events, The Naked Calendar, Take Me Out, Presidents Quizzes, the annual Slip n Slide and more.
VP Challenges
As the Vice-President Challenges, you will be in charge of overseeing RAD’s challenge events. Your main role and responsibility will be to ensure the overall smooth running of day-to-day RAD operations alongside your co-vice president and RAD president.
In this role, you will be responsible for assisting with the recruitment of challenge team leaders alongside challenge officers and in collaboration with challenge team leaders the recruitment of challenge participants.
You will need to maintain positive relations with charity and logistic partners and challenge leaders to ensure high recruitment rates and that all challenge participants reach their fundraising targets. It is also important to keep tabs on challenge officers and ambassadors. Finally, you will need to work in collaboration with the RAD challenge marketing officer to ensure a strong presence of RAD challenge events on RAD social media and website platforms.
Environment Executive
Fundraising can be harmful to the environment depending on what materials and methods are used, including the use of non-recyclable materials and single-use plastics.
In this role you will be responsible for the development of RAD’s new Green Fundraising Campaign, collaborating with charity and logistic partners, fundraisers, students unions’ and other organisations to adopt, encourage and develop green fundraising practices. You will also work in collaboration with the RAD President and Vice Presidents to develop RAD’s own environmental policy.
Marketing Executives x2
This year we are looking for two Marketing Executives - Challenges Marketing Executive and Events Marketing Executive.
In either of these roles, you will be working with all members of the committee to oversee the promotion of our projects, events/challenge and hitch activities. You will be expected to maintain and update our Facebook page, the RAD website and the FXU website. Therefore we are looking for someone with a good working knowledge of social media management (including Facebook, Instagram) and graphic design skills.
Hitch Officer x 2
In this role, you will be expected to run two hitchhike events, such as LOST, Jailbreak, or a Race2 (one per semester) and fall under the remit of VP Events. You will be required to organise everything from the risk assessments to travel arrangements for participants, run safety briefings etc. These roles require strong organisation and time management skills, as you will be running events that are predicted to raise £2,500+ and are an important part of RAD’s identity. Having experience with event management is very much likely to help you with this role, however, you will be fully supported with organisation documents from previous hitch events, as well as by FXU and the RAD team throughout the organisation process.
Events Officer x2
RAD hosts a number of events throughout the year and needs a team member with a background in event management who is competent and confident in managing and leading event teams. Due to RAD’s increasing size, you will not be required to run all of the events yourself, but rather you will work closely with the President and VP Events closely to come up with a creative calendar of events at the beginning of the year in order for you to oversee recruitment of teams for whom you will manage.
Recruitment & Social Executive
One of the key issues we have found as a society is that students want to get involved with RAD but don't know how. Therefore, next year, we want to launch a rep system. A RAD REP position is designed to be a smaller voluntary position that is less commitment than a full-time position (e.g. Events volunteers, Hitch HQ Volunteers, etc).
For this role, it will be your job to recruit these Reps and your responsibility to organise socials for RAD committee members, challenge and hitch participants and RAD Reps. We are looking for someone who is confident with networking to help recruit and persuade students to be more involved with RAD.
Challenge Officer x 2
RAD runs five national and international challenges a year. These challenges can be anything from climbing mountains to jumping out of planes, and they are usually abroad. In this role, it will be your responsibility to liaise with the RAD President, Vice President of Adventures and Adventure Ambassadors to choose types of challenge events that RAD will run for the year, liaise with the charity and logistic partners that run them and help recruit Challenge Leaders and help the leaders recruit participants.
Overall, you will need strong communication and organisation skills to keep tabs on these challenges and tons of enthusiasm to pour into recruitment. Between the two of you, you will look after either two or three challenges each and keep tabs on their progress over the academic year, supporting the leaders and communicating with the charities on struggles and successes. You will assist team leaders and challenge participants to smash their fundraising targets!
